Does it get any bigger? 90 meter wide slide projection onto the Berliner Cathedral (Berliner Dom). A rather unusual presentation

size even for a seasoned photographer. The Festival of Lights Berlin International Director Birgit Zander invited Oliver Brenneisen to

participate in the illumination of Berlin´s emblematic church building. The 12 nights festival is one of the largest illumination events

in the world and attracts around 2 million visitors. Massive worldwide media coverage carries the visual from Berlin around the world.

A total of 42.000 Watts of light source made the photos shine on the building front. High resolution scans from medium format

slides were used as source files which got split up into six pieces: One for each of the six massive projectors that then together

formed one seamless projection visual by Pani Austria.

Three motives were chosen by Oliver Brenneisen for the projection:

A bed of almond blossoms from Mallorca, marzipan lips by Catalan star pastelero Christian Escriba and a picture of fig leafs also

from Mallorca.

Oliver Brenneisen "I was fascinated by the briefing of the job and the enourmus scale of the canvas. It is an honour to have my art wrapped around such an emblematic building that has such an importance to Berlin and all of Evangelical Church in Germany. The Berliner Dom is a major landmark and all I wanted to use images that expressed harmony and were in tune with the essence of christianity in respect to the building. In a way I was searching my archive for pictures that were visually extremely strong and could work as quotes like if the building was talking in visuals. Obviuosly the work was projected onto the facade of the Berliner Dom, my idea was if it looked like the images were coming out of it. This was very important to me. The feedback from the huge audience was just lovely, the images looked amazing."

Due to the success of the work on the Berliner Dom in 2013, Oliver Brenneisen got invited back for the following year with 2 different works to participate on the 10th anniversary editon of the Festival of Lights.

Festival of Lights International was founded by Birgit Zander in Berlin.  The Festival of Lights is one of the largest illumination events in the world and attracts around 2 million visitors.
